News & Updates Archive October 2009 Happy Halloween! Too bad the Dodgers couldn't beat the Phillies. Oh well, there's always next year. Now it's time for Oktoberfest fun! With no more Dodgers games to attend, perhaps I can get back to working on my plushies. September 2009 I've been going to a lot of concerts around Los Angeles and quite a few Dodgers games. Hope they make it to the World Series! August 2009 Work, work, work. I still get email inquiries about my Home Movies plushies, but I still do not have any free time for commissions. July 2009 Talk about deja vu! I drove down to the LACC to pick up my badge, and that was as close as I was able to get to attending Anime Expo 2009...same as last year! This time I came down with a nasty flu bug. I really can't believe I missed AX again. At least I should have plenty of time to be prepared for AX2010! Hmmm...that sounds oddly familiar. Well, AX may have not worked out for me, but I did get to attend San Diego Comic Con for the first time ever! It was a long drive from Los Angeles to San Diego, but the con turned out to be a lot of fun. Saw a bunch of celebrities, snagged a few free goodies, and met one of my favorite artists. I'm not sure I'll attend SCDD next year, but I'm definitely considering it. June 2009 Birthday time again! I'm really killing myself trying to get my costume ready for AX09, but I think I still have plenty of time. May 2009 Another month just flew by! Once again, I've had to abandon my plans to make a few costumes for AX09 and just select one. I have a great head start on it from last year, just need a few major pieces to complete. I still have plenty of time...I hope! April 2009 Three months until AX09? I REALLY need to start on my costumes! March 2009 Swamped as usual. February 2009 Just looking at the calendar and realizing I really need to get started on my AX costumes. Who has time for plushies? January 2009 Another year begins! I celebrated in Little Tokyo, as I do every New Year. Sadly, one of my favorite shops (Kamikaze Manga & CD's) went out of business. I have no idea why. Probably due to the poor economy. They had a really awesome selection of manga, the latest imported pop & rock music from Japan, and cool authentic used Japanese school uniforms. December 2008 Merry Christmas, mina-san! November 2008 Happy Thanksgiving! I can't believe 2008 is almost over. I really hope I have more time to for my hobbies in 2009. October 2008 Happy Halloween! Finally went to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. It was actually pretty scary, and the Simpson's virtual rollercoaster is the best ride on the planet! [adult swim] held a cartoon character costume contest for Halloween. I went into high gear trying to obtain all the materials I would need to create a fabulous design. I managed to get everything, but I ran out of time...as usual! Couldn't participate in the contest, but I did register for ComicCon 2009. I don't know if I'll cosplay or not since this will by my first attendance at that particular convention. September 2008 I sent images of the Brendon Small and Toki's Devil Bear plushies to [adult swim] and they were featured during a pre-Metalocalypse bump! How awesome is that? That inspired me to create a Pickles the Drummer plushie. August 2008 Work, work, work. Getting a lot of interest in my Home Movies plushie. July 2008 So frustrating! I drove down to the LACC to pick up my badge, and that was as close as I was able to get to attending Anime Expo 2008! Totally sucks. Just couldn't fit it in my schedule. Last minute stuff. Oh well, my costume was not ready at all, and that's the main reason I go in the first place, so I guess it just wasn't meant to be. It's the first time I've missed an AX in the past few years. At least I should have plenty of time to be prepared for 2009! June 2008 Well, Happy Birthday to me! Got to see Metalocalypse/Dethklok in concert, which was great...except for the ridiculous moshers! People, moshing died out in the 80's, and there's no reason to bring it back now. Just stop it! I'm really killing myself trying to get my costume ready for AX08, but I think I still have plenty of time. However, I did just find out I'll only be able to attend 1 day, so that kind of puts the pressure on! May 2008 Another month just flew by! I've now had to abandon my plans to make a few costumes for AX08 and just select one. Still need to find a few things to complete it, but I still have plenty of time...I hope! April 2008 Three months until AX08? I REALLY need to start on my costumes! March 2008 Swamped as usual. No time for anything other than work. February 2008 Just looking at the calendar and realizing I really need to get started on my AX costumes. Who has time for plushies? January 2008 Another year begins! I celebrated in Little Tokyo, as I like to do every New Year. December 2007 Merry Christmas, mina-san! November 2007 I can't believe it's almost Christmas again! Where did the time go? I've been obtaining the materials I need for my AX08 costumes, but I haven't started working on them yet. No plushie news. October 2007 Work, work, work! No time for plushies yet, though I'm getting a few commission inquiry emails from people around the world. September 2007 My poor kitty who had been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma several weeks ago finally passed away this month. So sad. He was a wonderful cat. August 2007 Nothing much to report this month. My job keeps me very busy, so I still have no time for plushie-making activities. July 2007 The SKIN concert was incredible, however, the line to get into the concert was horrific! I didn't cosplay this time, but I have big plans for next year! June 2007 Happy Birthday to Me! Received an awesome Lava Lamp and a pair of killer pink quilted Cons! I like to celebrate my birthday all month long, so when I found out Yoshiki and Gackt would be performing live in concert at AX07, I immediately registered to attend...as a gift to myself! Still waiting to purchase tix to the show though. Misty plush is looking pretty good! It's just a slow process since it has a lot of details. Also found out my original domain name was about to expire, but before I could renew it, someone stole it from me. Had to find a better domain name, which I think I did: Plushie Dreams! May 2007 Working on Misty again, but one of my poor kitties was diagnosed with cancer, so that's been taking up a lot of my time. Anime Expo 2007 is coming up next month, but I have no costumes ready, so I probably won't attend this year. April 2007 Still unpacking and getting my workspace set up. No plushie work this month. March 2007 Just relocated to a new house, so I had to pack up all my stuff. No plushie work this month. February 2007 Happy Lunar New Year! Finished the Brendon Small (Home Movies) plushie and nearly completed the Toki Wartooth teddy bear (Metalocatlypse)! And so you may be wondering why I jumped onto two new plushies when I haven't finished Misty or Babidi yet. I really have no excuse for such behavior...it's just what I do. OK, no more new plushies until I finish the others! January 2007 Happy New Year! Good luck for those born in the Year of the Boar! Working hard on plushies (when I have the time)! Had to prepare for the NAMM tradeshow in Anaheim, so I've been very busy at work...as usual! I heard Brendon Small was at the Gibson Guitar booth signing autographs, but since I was stuck in our own booth I didn't get a chance to see for myself. December 2006 Happy Holidays everyone! I was so hoping to have poor Misty plushie completed before Christmas, but that didn't happen...as usual! (It would have been a nice surprise for D-chan who has been waiting patiently for me to finish already!) Even though I stilll have Misty and the Babidi plushies waiting, I felt it necessary to start a couple of new ones. After meeting the lovely and talented Brendon Small (creator of the animated series Home Movies and Metalocalypse) back in October, I decided to craft a couple of plushies based on characters from his shows. Photos will be posted upon completion of the projects. November 2006 Wow! I can't believe it's already NOVEMBER! 2007 is almost here! I've been so busy at work that I've had no time at all to do too much fun stuff. Misty plush, Babidi plush, fanfics and artwork have all been put on hold for a little while. I was going to attend JapanExpo 2006 in Los Angeles (11/18-11/19) since there will some cosplay activities, but I don't think I'll have the time. I wanted to resurrect my Shaka costume (needs a little repair), but I simply don't have a spare moment to fix it. I recently made a happy discovery in the latest issue of the Japanese cosplay magazine "Cosmode" (issue #014)...I'm in it! It's one of my favorite J-mags, so I'm completely excited needless to say! Wish it was a bigger photo though...(sigh!) Although I have no plans to attend AX07, I'm currently in the process of gathering the materials for my next 4 or 5 costumes. Look for me at Anime Expo 2008 for sure! August 2006 Still working on (and experimenting with) the Misty plushie. I recently stumbled upon a very interesting way to make Misty's Silver Cloth. I need to pick up some special adhesive, but I've been so busy at work that I've not had a chance to get the supplies I need to finish this project. The Babidi plushie is coming along nicely, but I have a long way to go with it. There are a lot of little details on this character so I haven't progressed past the head yet. I'm really anxious to finish these plushies so I can start on some new ones! July 2006 Attended Anime Expo 2006 July 1-2 where I cosplayed Gold Saint Virgo Shaka! I spent the entire time in costume, so I was unable to enjoy anything else at AX06 (which was the 15th anniversary of the con). I didn't purchase one thing while I was there, nor was I able to obtain any free goodies! I still had a great time though. This was to be my final attendance at any future AX's since it always takes a lot of time out of my life (especially since I now simply refuse to go without cosplaying), but I've been having second thoughts. On the other hand, I don't know if I could ever top my Shaka costume, so why bother? Oh well, I have some time to think about it before next year's AX! In the meantime, please enjoy some photos of me portraying the lovely and talented Virgo Shaka. On July 3rd I also had the pleasure of attending a cozy little live performance by Japan's very own Hyde! Wow, what a show! It was at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, and although it was a sold-out performance, it was an intimate crowd. He's a great entertainer and his band played excellent music! The opening act was The Black List Club (link to their MySpace page), and they completely rocked the HoB! BLC need to be signed, and quickly! The world deserves to be hear this band! Can you tell I'm a new fan? May - June 2006: All plushie work has been placed on hold! AnimeExpo 2006 is coming up (July 1-4) and I must complete the Saint Seiya costume I've been working on since AnimeExpo 2005! After quite a bit of trial and error, I decided to chuck the parts I had made so far and completely remake the entire costume. That was at beginning of May. I now have 30 days to finish it, which may sound like a lot of time, but I can only work on the costume for about an hour a day during the week. I have more time on the weekends, but I've only got 4 of those before AX06! I think I'll have it ready for the convention, but I'll have to sacrifice my plushie-making activities in order to accomplish my goal. After July 4th, I'll be back to my fics and plushies! April 2006: Had to abandon the original faux armor material that I was using for Misty plush. Initially it seemed fine, but it became too difficult to work with as the project progressed. Had to order new fabrics and experiment with them in order to find a suitable replacement. Yet another setback for poor Misty! Began work on the Babidi plushie. Just the head so far, but I think it's turning out rather nice! March 2006: Making great progress with the Misty plush. I was experiencing complications with the faux armor, but after some experimentation, it seems to be coming together nicely. Should be finished with Misty quite soon...and it's about time! See Misty's progress. Was contacted by an individual interested in commissioning a plushie based on the character "Babidi" from DBZ: Babidi Saga. Should be a fun project!
